Community Center Features

Community Center Features

The proposed measure would create the Woodburn Community Center, a safe, and secure facility that provides access to recreation, wellness, and cultural programming opportunities for all ages and abilities.

For Kids & Families

A full-service community center will offer programs that allow youth and teens in our community to continue learning after school in a safe, fun, and educational environment. It will also create new recreation and wellness opportunities for families, including an indoor walking and jogging track, fitness facilities, a new warm-water pool, and a multi-court gymnasium. Child care will also be available while parents are using the facility. Kids will also enjoy using the new, splash and spray pad and larger water slide. The expanded aquatic center will help increase water safety: drowning is the second leading cause of death due to unintentional injury among children ages 5 to 14. Swim lessons and lifeguard training available at the new pool will allow kids to gain critical water safety skills that help keep them safe.

For Adults

The center will create new recreation and wellness opportunities for adults, including an indoor walking and jogging track, fitness facilities, a new warm-water pool, and a two-basketball court gymnasium. Additionally, it will create a new, affordable event space for large events for families, nonprofits, or businesses. The center will also include a commercial kitchen, for event and business use.

For Seniors

This bond will allow the City of Woodburn to expand programming and increase accessibility for seniors in our community. Use of the community center could be covered by Medicare Advantage plans, such as Silver and Fit – allowing seniors to have the cost of their community center membership covered through Medicare Advantage plans. It would also update and improve the existing pool, while adding a new warm-water pool. The current lap water pool will be better able to accommodate mixed uses like water aerobics. The warm-water pool will have a safer gradual entry to increase accessibility to all ages, as well as therapeutic benefits. The Community Center space will also offer programs and activities for seniors.
