Library Book Club

Come and talk about books with us on the second Thursday of each month! We're having our Book Club at lunchtime, so please feel free to bring your own lunch. The Library will provide coffee, cookies, and pop for everyone. New readers are always welcome!

Next Meeting:
Thursday, September 9, 2010
12pm - 1pm
Carnegie Room

We'll be discussing All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy.

We invite YOU to join us!

This is the tale of John Grady Cole, who at sixteen finds himself at the end of a long line of Texas ranchers, cut off from the only life he has ever imagined for himself. With two companions, he sets off for Mexico on a sometimes idyllic, sometimes comic journey to a place where dreams are paid for in blood.

Please spend some time over the next month reading this accessible, profound adventure story. You can check the book out of the library if you don't already own a copy (just ask at the Circulation Desk). Come on September 9 ready to chat about tragedy, loyalty, and courage.

Future Meetings:

October 14, 2010
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Sterling is a small, ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens -- until the day its complacency is shattered by a shocking act of violence. In the aftermath, the town's residents must not only seek justice in order to begin healing but also come to terms with the role they played in the tragedy.

No November meeting (the second Thursday falls on a holiday)

December 9, 2010
Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston's vibrant novel presents Janie Mae Crawford's growth from a voiceless teenage girl into a woman who takes charge of her own destiny.

January 13, 2011
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski
Epic in scope, evoking the ancient kinship between people and dogs, this is an unforgettable novel set against the majestic backdrop of northern Wisconsin. After his father dies suddenly, mute teenager Edgar Sawtelle runs away and into the wilderness.
